My most insane work. Almost two years in the works, on and off. This was a collaboration piece between @halcyonforge and I – we talked about doing a big slicer and Joe forged out this one. It’s three layers of Cru Forge V forge welded with nickel in between for a total of five layers. I designed this madness of a handle last year and tried to finish the whole thing by June 2019, which obviously didn’t happen. Some of you have seen the earlier YouTube videos documenting that process, some of you handled the piece unfinished in Atlanta.
Check out the YouTube video below to see the final process in finishing this project.
Steel: Cru Forge V with Nickel (primarily carbon steel build)
Handle: Black Paper Micarta, Silver Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber
Edge Length: 312mm (12.28″)
Height: 52mm (2.04″)
Handle Length: 150mm (5.90″)
Thickness at ricasso (in front of handle): 5.28mm (0.208″)
To purchase the knife, please respond to the NEWSLETTER email confirming you’d like to take it with your shipping address. Method of payment accepted is wire transfer.
Make sure you are aware of the care required for carbon steels (it’s pretty easy, just wipe it after cutting something, hand wash, and wipe dry before storing. It will get a patina). The black finish will develop gnarly patinas on top of it though – it’s honestly my favorite look.
